We might be able to file a Chapter 13 Bankruptcy.  We didn't know for sure.  We haven't had much of a chance to look up the details.  We were just trying to keep our heads above water.  these investments were not a great idea.  They have cost us just about everything.  I don't know where to go from here, if anywhere.  We are in trouble.  Still, there is a chance we can keep the house and some personal items.  And now that Deb has a full time job we may have more room to talk.  It is humiliating, but I think we were really taken advantage of.  Nobody could know that this guy was a crook.  He came into town and promised the moon.  But we did our homework. He just was one step ahead of all our questions.  He had a quick answer for everything.  It sounded good, and we did check around, but the reviews we got were good.  So how were we to know?  It was a bad thing gone worse once the checks started to bounce and the promises of wired money never came.  We were racking up thousands is losses.  The town council, which had the power to really investigate, never did.  We suffered millions in losses.
